How Poker Changed My Life

So this is my first post about Poker so before I begin let me tell you about me and poker. I’ve been playing Texas Holdem for about 3 years now and immediately loved the game the first time I played it. I started out playing at a friends house in a little home game for $5 and started winning basically every time I went. My dad was playing with me and eventually he started going to some bigger games for that he heard about and after a while I started going. I had started making money online when I really started to become a good poker player so eventually I went with him to the games he was going to. The first bigger game I went to was a $60 buy in with unlimited $60 rebuys for the first hour and a $60 add on at the end of the hour. So you could go a couple hundred into the game easy. This was a lot at the time for me and I wasn’t doing very good at these stakes starting out. For a while I wasn’t winning anything at the bigger games since the players were a lot better at these games than what I was used to playing. So we were basically ignored from playing the little $5 games because me or my dad won basically every time. The bigger game that I had been going to eventually got shut down because of money issues or something. So I took a little break from playing live. I played online for a while and wasn’t really making any money until I found a tournament on Full Tilt poker called the Midnight Madness. Its a $10 + $1 tourny and usually attracts over 2,000 people. I played in it a few times and would just barely make it in the money, which didn’t pay much. I was very confident that I would win this tourny eventually. And one night a couple months back I did it. I took first place in the Midnight Madness for a prize of $3,926.56. I took a $2500 payout the next morning and played cash games that night with some of my winnings and was up another $900! So I kept playing the cash games and eventually my streak went down hill. I lost all the money in my account that I had left in there. So a month or two later the game that I used to go to started back up and I started going again. They are doing it two times a week now though. On Monday they have $60 buy in with $40 rebuys and a $60 add on at the break, on Thursday they have a $30 buy in with $20 rebuys and a $30 add on. So like I was saying I started going back and again no cash after no cash. My dad stopped playing so much at the bigger games due to money and I started to get to know they dealer there and I started riding with him to the game. Here in the last few months I have won just about every tourny I go to. And I am playing almost every day of the week, which I kinda am trying to slow down a bit now because I am being gone to much. I am still playing a lot online and I am working at becoming a winning online player. I started out playing $5 games and now I’ve bought into $300 rebuy tournys.
In a later post I will talk about the games we have around here that I go to. There is a game basically every day of the week.
Now just to let you know I am only 17 so all of these games I’m going to people run, these aren’t casinos. I will be going to Florida this July when I turn 18 to play in casino’s there though! I’m very excited about that. Poker has changed my life and I am not even old enough to play it yet. I’ve met a lot of cool people and learned a lot playing the game. If you haven’t ever played Texas Holdem, TRY IT!
